Nicole Herder, Intern

I have many personal experiences that help me to relate to individuals facing challenging life circumstances. Growing up exposed to all kinds of difficulties has provided me with a unique frame of reference on the struggles that individuals face. I have faced challenges with anxiety and depression, as well as being a child of divorced parents, I have firsthand knowledge of the trials and burdens that can come our way. Being part of the LGBTQ+ community, I have a unique perspective to offer when it comes to relationships, emotions, and self-esteem. Struggling to get out of bed in the mornings, being surrounded by people who don’t understand you, and not allowing yourself to take the time you need for yourself are all things I have experienced and have been able to get out of, which you can too!

Through these difficult moments, I was fortunate enough to have my friends and family standing beside me. Their constant presence has taught me the value of support and community when it comes to healing our paths. I understand that not everyone has this kind of support system, and I’m ready and willing to be yours.

I provide therapy for teens and adults so you don’t have to go through this alone. Let me provide a safe and comfortable space for us to work through this together.

My Education

I have always wanted to help others which led me to pursue education in Psychology. At Park University, I gained a clear understanding of what it means to be human. I graduated from Park with my bachelor’s degree in social psychology, which also speaks to my strong desire to see how people operate within a society, and how society as a whole impacts who we are.

I am continuing my knowledge and skills development as I pursue graduate studies at Avila University, where I am currently enrolled in their Master of Science in Counseling Psychology. My focus is to provide counseling for individuals that struggle with trauma, anxiety and depression.

Theoretical Approach

In therapy, my main goal is to work together with my clients, by providing a safe space where they can explore their feelings. Together, we explore how different underlying issues or experiences have contributed to symptoms that cause disruption within your life and daily functioning. We will also work toward recognizing and understanding the need for self-awareness to create a positive healing experience.

The use of effective self-care will help on the journey of understanding oneself, which will provide insight into how one processes feelings. With this insight, my clients can find comfort and support, which will lead to more self-compassion.
