Alexis Chastain, Intern

The pivotal moments in my own life, characterized by substantial transitions and an abrupt departure from a tight-knit religious community, deepen my understanding and empathy for individuals struggling with feelings of isolation and a sense of not belonging. I recognize the challenges that accompany difficult transitions, especially during childhood. Having navigated such complexities myself, I am attuned to the impact these experiences can have on one's sense of identity and connection.

In my downtime, I find joy in the captivating worlds of fantasy books, particularly those by Brandon Sanderson. Beyond reading, I'm equally passionate about collecting stones and rocks. This interest is reflected in my diverse collection, including large salt lamps, crystals, and prisms. This love for rocks seamlessly integrates into my therapeutic approach, where I utilize them as grounding tools to help clients navigate difficult emotions.

My Education

I am an LPC intern currently pursuing my Master of Science in Counseling Psychology. With a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Criminology & Criminal Justice, my professional journey has been shaped by a blend of academic knowledge and hands-on experience.

My dedication to supporting individuals facing domestic violence emerged during my time at the Jackson County Prosecutor's office. My time there was spent guiding women through the challenging court process. This experience provided me with insights into the complexities of trauma and the importance of a compassionate and empowering therapeutic approach. I've also received specialized training in narcissistic abuse, adding an extra layer to my ability to address the intricate dynamics of such experiences.

Theoretical Approach

My therapeutic style is rooted in understanding the profound impact of past experiences on shaping present-day identities. I find fulfillment in using this approach while working with individuals who have navigated challenging events such as domestic abuse, narcissistic abuse, or neglect during childhood years. I recognize that coping skills developed during difficult times may no longer serve individuals. In our sessions, we will explore your past experiences and relationships, identifying outdated coping mechanisms and unfavorable core beliefs that may have emerged from these experiences. Our work will be focused on stripping them of their power, paving the way for healing and growth. We will build new, empowering coping skills and foster positive core beliefs that align with your present-day self. I am dedicated to providing a safe and supportive space for you to untangle the complexities of your past and embark on a journey toward resilience, empowerment, and a more fulfilling life.
